Learn the story of Mr Jerky Jerk
Mr Jerky Jerk's journey began in the early 1990s amid a recession in London. What started one April evening with two stray pieces of chicken led to selling his very first plates of jerk chicken, rice and peas, and homemade juices to a curious postman. From that humble sidewalk beginning—buying ten more pieces of chicken with the earnings and selling them at the local barber shop—Mr Jerky Jerk's passion for authentic Caribbean flavours ignited a culinary adventure that's never looked back.
Growing up in a bustling household of ten, Mr Jerky Jerk watched his father master the art of rice and peas, Guinness punch, and carrot juice, while his mother—his "queen angel"—filled their home with warmth and kindness through every meal. He learned by "watching like a hawk," soaking up recipes, techniques, and the importance of soulful, generous cooking. Special homage goes to his cousin Horace Walker in Brixton, whose marvellous marinades and juices added new layers of inspiration to his craft.
Over the years, Mr Jerky Jerk took his flavours from street corners to carnival celebrations—catching crowds on Westbourne Park Road every summer, grilling for Queens Park Day each September, and fuelling sound system parties across South and West London alongside icons like Nasty Love, Tim Westwood, Craig Mack, and Biggie Smalls. Through rain, snow, and long days on his knees battling arthritis, he never gave up. A chance encounter with a compassionate cab driver named Sadik led him to secure a permanent kitchen on Leyton Frances Road—a moment so emotional he "cried like a baby" realising his lifelong dream had finally come true.
Cooking for Mr Jerky Jerk isn't just a business—it's a labour of love. He knows the food industry is "a very, very hard game," but he believes in dreaming big, staying resilient, and giving every customer more than just a takeaway meal—he gives them hospitality, laughter, and community.
